Diary of a Wombat
I just had to share the most wonderful book. I love reading with my daughter and we seem to be at the library more than the librarians. If my daughter really falls in love with a book, I end up buying it to have in our permanent collection. Jackie French's book Diary of a Wombat was an ALA Notable Children's Book. It follows the Wombat as it lays around all day, steals food and moves closer and closer into the lives of a family. Kids get a kick out of the seemingly boring day (wake, eat, nap, eat, sleep) and the funny illustrations by Bruce Whatley. I even found myself giggling as the Wombat makes its way closer and closer to the home of the family. It is a simple, yet wonderful book that young readers cannot help but enjoy! If you love Diary of a Wombat, do not miss Diary of a Baby Wombat.
