Super Healthy Snacks and Treats

I have a pantry stocked with all kinds of healthy ingredients, but I am often left uninspired.  What to do with this ground flax seed and goji berries?  Super Healthy Snacks and Treats by Jenna Zoe is full of more than 60 recipes that are gluten, dairy, refined sugar and egg-free!  Super Healthy Snacks and Treats is a go-to for parties and even for a snack that hits the spot without the inevitable crash and burn from refined sugars and gluten.  Author Jenna Zoe is "the founder of Foods To Love, an online health food shop selling products free from wheat, gluten, sugar, dairy and eggs. She studied nutrition in order to heal from the inside out. Determined not to feel deprived while cleaning up her eating habits, she searched for ways to make healthy foods fun and colourful."

Super Healthy Snacks and Treats is an inspiring collection of recipes to make you change the way you snack and see and feel the benefits in no time. Jenna replaces refined sugar with natural sweeteners such as agave syrup and maple syrup; wheat flour with wheat-free alternatives; and dairy with nut and soya milks and health-giving oils. And she packs the snacks with fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds and other superfoods to furnish your body with long-term health-enhancing vitamins and minerals. The chapters are Breakfasts, Power Snacks, Savory Nibbles, Dips & Dippers, Sweet Bites, Cookies and Bakes.

Because we are in our winter hibernation mode, we have been craving sweets, but are also trying to eat healthier.  Super Healthy Snacks and Treats has become our source for treats that we don't feel guilty eating.

So far I have made the Walnut-goji Nanaimo Bars which are chock full of flax seeds, walnuts, sunflower seed, goji and dark chocolate (high in fiber and iron).  They are vegan and so delicious.  They hit the craving spot and because you can freeze them (they need to be served cold), they really last.  My daughter begs for them.

I am a huge fan of the Peanut Butter and jelly thumbprint cookies.  They are the perfect combo of salty and sweet, and even better, no eggs or dairy!  I even used my pectin-free no-sugar-added raspberry jam (homemade of course).  These are perfect for tea or even a lunchbox treat.

If you are craving chocolate, look no further than the addictive Cocoa-almond freezer fudge pops.  Using pure raw cocoa powder, I can not only satisfy that intense chocolate craving monster, but also give myself a potent punch of raw cocoa nutrition.  My husband is not a "dessert person" (I know, who is he?!), but even he grabs one of these.  They incorporate flax seed and almond butter too, so they are nutritious enough to stem my guilt.  Don't tell my family they are actually eating healthy though.

I cannot wait to try more recipes from Super Healthy Snacks and Treats.  I have a particular craving coming for the Edamame and Miso dip.  Clean eating can be delicious and so much fun!
