Such a Perfect Day...I'm Glad I spent it With You

The sun is shining and you can finally step outdoors without piles of snow filling your shoes.  (well at least in my neck of the woods).  How can we enjoy this?  How about a picnic?  I make sure that if the sun is shining, my family is outside enjoying it.  A Perfect Day for a Picnic by Tori Finch is full of over 80 recipes for outdoor feasts.

Chic country girl and gourmet Tori Finch understands the joy of a carefree picnic. There’s nothing like eating outdoors to capture your sense of adventure, and add flair to the food—whether you are entertaining a relaxed crowd of friends and family or preparing a romantic feast for two. Hop on your vintage bike to work up an appetite, hit the beach for a cook-out, or host a teddy bears’ picnic for the little ones; these all feature within Tori’s 10 themed menus, each complete with recipes for portable savory and sweet dishes, as well as drinks to serve alongside. On a balmy summers eve, hang paper lanterns from trees and serve Asian-inspired food in the Indochine picnic, or lay luxurious rugs and evoke a sense of the middle east with a meze platter and spiced citrus couscous for the Bohemian picnic. Warm up during a fall walk in the woods with a thermos of spiced squash soup and slices of zingy Jamaican gingercake, or dream of sunnier climes with a Provençal-inspired feast of freshly roasted rotisserie-style chicken, home-made olive bread, and French strawberry tart. Whatever the occasion, A Perfect Day for a Picnic is your guide to enjoying the outdoor life. • Includes over 80 recipes and gorgeous, evocative photography by Georgia Glynn Smith.• Tori Finch is an exciting new voice in food writing, and writes the popular blog on food, lifestyle and interiors at www.thesauce.moonfruit.com.

The recipes inspire you to get outside and enjoy the day.   The themed menus allow you to strike the perfect culinary note with friends and family.  I am a huge fan of the Salad Jars which are chock full of beets, tomatoes, Cucumber, Pineapple, Dill Salad, Herby Citrus Quinoa and even sunflower seeds.  They look as gorgeous as they taste.  Bonus: these are great to take on camping trips; simply pack in your cooler and away you go.  I cannot wait to throw a Bohemian Picnic and Beach Barbecue.

I especially like to finish my day with a drink from the Romantic Picnic chapter: Lime, Mint Spritzer with Cucumber Ribbons.  It brings delicious refreshment to a new level.   A Perfect Day for a Picnic  has me feeling a little like a Victorian lady, enjoying my meal in the outdoors under my parasol (or rather a vintage blanket with my daughter running around screaming, but hey, one can dream).
