Trash Into Treasure

We are always tempted to run out and buy every new gadget and tchotchke, especially around the holidays. With everyone going on about the economy, it is a perfect time to look at some of the objects in your own home and those you find at yard and rummage sales and make them into something beautiful.  You can repurpose trash and make it into treasure.  Junk Genius by Juliette Goggin and Stacy Sirk shows you how to repurpose everyday objects.

In Junk Genius, you will find highly rewarding and money-saving repurposing projects, and discover why making your own is a trend well worth exploring. Juliette Goggin and Stacy Sirk have created over 40 projects using items you can easily find or might already have. Discover creative ways to use glass and old crates as well as no end of uses for paper, including crafting with wallpaper, stamps and old photos. Add something different to your household with a range of light fittings made from colanders and even jelly moulds! Transform old keys into a range of items, from jewellery to door handles. Finally, try making unwanted jumpers into cosy pillow covers. Whether you are a beginner or experienced crafter, you will learn to hunt out and see the potential in a whole range of items, and be inspired to transform your treasure trove of useable raw materials into stunning new accessories for your home. Taps into the popular upcycling market, appealing to those just discovering a love of crafting, as well as those rediscovering long-forgotten crafting skills.

I used an antique egg-cup and repurposed it into a pin cushion for my sewing.   I knew it would come in handy, though my husband wondered why I would keep a chipped cup.  I think it looks quite kitchsy.  I also used an old tin and made it into a little holder for pens which we always seem to scramble for in the kitchen.
It looks really good and I did not have to spend a penny.   I am looking forward to using my nana's wooden thread spools for hooks and making a dressing table in my small bedroom with a simple shelf.

Give a unique gift this holiday, or treat yourself to something old made new.  Grab  Junk Genius and get to it!
